Why the UK and Ireland
Both countries teach in English, most bachelor's degrees in England take three years and many master's degrees take one. Gulf families know the universities well, and many schools in the UAE already teach the British curriculum, which makes the move easier.
Applying through UCAS
Most undergraduate applications to the UK go through UCAS. A student can choose up to five courses with one personal statement. For 2027 entry, the deadline for Oxford, Cambridge and most medicine, dentistry and veterinary courses was 15 October 2026. For other courses it is 13 January 2027 at 6 pm UK time.
Ireland
In Ireland, students from outside the EU usually apply directly to the university, and each university sets its own dates. We confirm the requirements and deadline for every course on your list.
The UK Student visa
Students need a Student visa, sponsored by the university through a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS). They must show funds for living costs for up to nine months. For applications made on or after 30 November 2026, that is £1,570 a month in London and £1,203 a month elsewhere. Students also pay the Immigration Health Surcharge, currently £776 a year.
After graduation: the Graduate route
Graduates can stay to work, or look for work, through the Graduate route. It currently lasts two years, or three after a PhD, and falls to 18 months for applications made on or after 1 January 2027. Read our guide to the 2027 UK visa changes.
One-year master's and recognition at home
A one-year UK master's saves a year, but check that the ministry at home accepts its length and format, especially for government jobs and licensed professions. For medicine and engineering, the UAE requires a bachelor's degree in the same field before a master's is recognised.
